PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The objective of the Commerce program is to develop a pool of young talent with specialized knowledge in the fields of Accounting / Finance.
Program Overview
School of Commerce, established in the year 2014 is one of the constituents of XIM University. The school offers Undergraduate, Post-graduate and Ph. D programs and is an ideal place for pursuing Commerce education that meets industry expectations. It boasts of a robust physical and intellectual infrastructure to prepare the students to face the competitive environment awaiting them at the national and international level.
From the Academic Year 2025-26, the school is going to offer 4-year degree programs in Bachelor of Commerce(B.Com) as per the recommendations of National Education Policy(NEP) 2020. The undergraduate degree will be either 3 or 4 year duration with multiple entry and exit options within this period with appropriate certifications such as:
- a UG certificate after completing 1 year(2 semesters)
- a UG diploma after 2 years(4 semesters)
- a bachelor’s degree after 3 years(6 semesters)
- a 4-year bachelor’s degree(honours with research or without research) after(8 semesters)
4-year UG Degree (Honours with Research)
Students who wish to undertake research in the fourth year will be required to choose a research stream provided they have secured a minimum of 75% marks in the first six semesters. The research project or dissertation will be in the major discipline. Honours students not undertaking research will do 3 courses for 12 credits in lieu of a research project or dissertation.
Program structure:
The program aims to provide a holistic and multidisciplinary education that would recognize, identify and foster the unique capabilities of each student. The course curriculum offers a combination of major, minor, multidisciplinary, ability enhancement, skill enhancement and value-added courses to promote critical thinking while emphasizing conceptual understanding. The course workload is measured in terms of credit hours where one credit is equivalent to 15 hours of academic engagement. Students pursuing either B.Com is required to earn a total of 171 credits(including 2 credits for SIP) for the award of degree at the end of 4 years. The key components of the course curriculum are as follows:
Major discipline
Major discipline is the subject of focus in which the degree will be awarded. A student should earn the prescribed number of credits through core courses in the major discipline.
Minor discipline
The courses in minor discipline help a student get broader understanding of the major courses.
Ability Enhancement Courses(AEC)
These courses aim at enabling the students to develop their reading and writing skills and articulate their arguments and present their thinking clearly
Skills Enhancement Courses(SEC)
These courses aim to provide practical skills hands-on training, soft skills to enhance the employability of students.
Multidisciplinary Courses
These courses complement and broaden the intellectual experience of a student and give exposure to other interdisciplinary courses.
Value Added Courses(VAC)
These courses aim at enabling students to understand and appreciate the contemporary India, goals and policies of national development, the environmental issues, the importance of technological revolutions and solutions and the importance of health and wellness.
Summer Internship Program(SIP)
All students are required to undergo internships in a firm, industry or organization for a period of 6 to 8 weeks during the summers after second year.
Credit Structure
All major, minor and multidisciplinary courses are of 4 credits each. Other courses such as AEC, SEC and VAC are of 2 credits each. SIP carries 2 credits
