PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Finance is regarded as the lifeblood of a business enterprise. It is the foundation of all kinds of economic activities. The success of an organization largely depends on efficient management of its finances. The finance department in an organization refers to the people responsible for conceptualizing, implementing, and following through with all finance and accounting related tasks and initiatives, as well as the technological tools they employ. The finance function consists of the people, technology, processes, and policies that dictate tasks and decisions related to financial resources of a business. The finance function works best when people with the right qualifications & skills are matched with the right tasks.

The MMS-BF is a two-year full-time residential program with a sharp focus on “Business Finance” in a dynamic economic environment. It is designed to develop highly competent finance professionals by imparting the cutting-edge knowledge, skills and experience essential for managing the finance functionalities in a highly competitive modern organization.

ACADEMIC SYSTEM

MMS-BF is a specialized program spread over a two-year period divided into four (4) semesters. The course curriculum has 102 credits of classroom instruction. In addition to this, the program requires a project work carrying 4 credits and covers immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.

In the first two semesters, students get inputs on the basic areas such as Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Corporate Laws, Statistics, Economics, Research Methodology, MIS, Quantitative Techniques and many more. These core courses set the foundation for more advanced courses such as Project Planning, Appraisal and Finance, Behavioral Finance, Financial Modeling, Business Analytics, Corporate Tax Planning and so on.

While the program covers a wide range of courses, “finance” remains the main focus area. The knowledge base of the students also gets further strengthened by summer projects, immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.

CURRICULUM DESIGN

The MMS-BF program is spread over a two-year period divided into four semesters. The first & third semesters will be spread from July to November and the second & fourth semesters from November to March. Students in this program complete 106 credits over four semesters. One credit is equivalent to 10 teaching/contact (classroom) hours plus another 10 hours of academic work to be utilized outside the classroom in reading, research, assignments and/or activities related to the course, as specified by the faculty. The program involves an average of 15 class sessions a week, each of 90 minutes duration. The students’ workload, including class sessions, required readings, term papers, project work and field visits, is expected to require about 60 hours per week.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

As a policy, the Institute encourages students to develop team skills and citizenship qualities in addition to academic accomplishments. Enough scope exists in the campus for extracurricular activities through participation in interest-specific, voluntary student associations and other pursuits such as sports, social service, book clubs, music, debates, quizzes, contests, etc.
